Daniel Chattin makes the fetishes. He learned from the Quandelacy
family, hence the similarity to the maidens of Sandra and Faye.
However, there is a quality, a feeling in Daniel Chattin s maidens
that make them his own. Beyond the craft of knowing how to carve
stone on a grinding wheel, every Zuni carver strives
to turn craft into art.

The Zuni artist can see inside the stone... to see
what does not appear, what is under the stones surface. Then again,
perhaps the carver wills the stone to form the images he
wants to see. It is those images that Daniel
Chattin brings to us.

Jovanna Poblano, Daniel's wife, designs and strings the
necklaces. Her sense of fashion and color is unsurpassed.
Veronica Poblano Jovanna's mother is a famous
Zuni jeweler in her own right.

Leo Poblano was a Zuni Innovator. He was an early Zuni
stone carver, stone cutter, silversmith, inlayer and artist. His
work was highly regarded by CG Wallace, collectors of
that period and collectors today. Leo Poblano's
influence is felt in Poblano Chattin
jewelry and fetish carving.
