Lorindina Sheche - Zuni Fetish Carver
Lorindina Sheche
carves in the old Sheche/Kucate style.
Lorindina
is the
daughter of Aaron
and Thelma Sheche
(the daughter
of Teddy Kucate).
Teddy Kucate was the earliest recorded Zuni fetish carver.
While
carvings made earlier then those of Kucate may exist outside
of Zuni, their provenance is not known and authenticity
should be well researched.
Teddy Kucate lived a long and productive life. Lorindina
remembers him. Lorindina is the last of the true Sheche
Kucate carvers. Lorindina's carvings are very accurate
replicas of ancient Zuni fetishes.

Lorindina has a great respect for her heritage. Many of the
fetishes Lorindina carves (like her mother and father
before her) are a direct link to the Zuni fetishes of
pre history. They are accurate and authentic
representations of Zuni religious icons.
Thelma Sheche no longer carves and Aaron passed away.
For collectors seeking traditional, pre-historic Zuni fetish
carvings,
Lorindina Sheche is the only living Zuni carver creating
them. Lorindina's fetish carvings are very accurate traditional
Zuni fetishes. Her fetishes are like those of her parents
(Thelma and Aaron Sheche), her grandfather
(Teddy Kucate), and Zuni pre-historic
fetishes as documented by Frank
Cushing in the 1880's for
the US Government.

Carved when Marnella lived with Thelma and Aaron.
Marnella was a talented carver who carved for a very short time.
She rarely (if ever??) carves now. However, at the time she
carved this, she was still living with her grandparents
Thelma and Aaron who raised her.
Marnella work was always true to Kucate/Sheche designs.
It was very well finished... jewelry like.
