Choosing your Zuni Fetish

1) What animal does your Zuni fetish represent? Each Zuni Fetish animal
is carved for specific reasons.

2) What material is the fetish carved from? Turquoise, coral, amber, or ivory
 are more expensive then dolomite, serpentine, jet, or antler. The carving
materials and colors are also significant.

3) Who carved the fetish and where was it carved. Zuni fetishes by master
carvers - made from rare or old material - are the most valuable.

4) Like other fine art, quality fetishes from master carvers will appreciate
 in value over time.

5) The best fetishes are those where the animal appears to come alive from
 the stone. Perhaps, the face of the fetish is the stone itself. Or maybe, the
 heart line is through the stone so perfectly it seems as if it was drawn there.
Inlay that is seamless is preferred (and very difficult to accomplish)... where
 even under magnification you cannot tell where one stone ends and the
other begins.  The best fetishes are made with skill, imagination, and spirit.
